Skiing
This resort is little known by the British but is a true jewel in the crown. Door step skiing to a very high standard of piste care and the gateway to the rest of the Amade ski system. The resort itself is high so snow conditions are good and once you ski here you will soon appreciate why it is a recognised training ground for National Ski Teams and has produced so many Austrian champions.
Children Ski School
The Austrian ski schools are some of the best in the world and the ones in Zauchensee are exceptional, especially with children. Hillwood recommends, the ski school operated from the Hotel Zauchenseehof, it is run by the family Walchhofer. This ski school has a dedicated slope with two moving carpets where the little ones learn. The instructors are well versed in how to teach these budding skiers and variety is a key factor. They will often interrupt the lessons for a bit of tobogganing or a drink and play. The very young ones will spend their week learning to turn and stop with the week culminating on the Thursday with them showing off their skills as they ski a small course set up for them.
The ski school offer ski classes for all ages and abilities so for the more adept skiers they are up on the mountain in no time at all. The beginners are taught the basics on the gentle nursery slopes then taken on the slightly more challenging blue runs on the mountains.
Sometimes as an added bonus, if Michael Walchhofer (Olympic Silver downhill medallist) is in the resort he will even come and meet the children after their ski race.
Supervised lunches are offered by the ski school.
For adults wishing to brush up on their skiing, lessons are offered on a morning only basis leaving you free to practice in the afternoon. Private lessons can be arranged.

Hillwood operates their alpine childcare facilities with a flexible approach to meet the needs of a family on a ski holiday. We have a programme of activities including, snow fun, crafts, playtime and quiet times. Hillwood believes ski holidays are packed with fun and activities so with this philosophy we are sure your children will enjoy a Hillwood winter holiday.

Village
Zauchensee is a satellite town to Altenmarkt. A place for true skiers with doorstep skiing you will not miss the hustle and bustle of a town. If you do crave this, it can be found just a short bus ride away in Altenmarkt.
Christmas in the Alps
Skiing at Christmas can be a special time and for families we offer a package that includes a special meal on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas stockings, crackers and cake combining the traditions of an English and Continental Christmas.
Ski Packs
Prices quoted are in £ sterling for 6 days and are approximate:
- Amadé lift passes Adult £160 Child £90
- Special offer Children's Free lift pass: Children under the age of 15years of age receive a FREE lift ticket if just one parent purchases a 6 day or more lift ticket. This offer applies over the Easter period.
Ski and Boot hire can vary dependant on the type of equipment you require.
- Skis and Boots: Adult £60-£80 Child £40
- Special Offer: Children under the age of 10yrs old receive free ski and boot hire if both parents hire equipment.
Ski School
Lessons are 4 hours long split morning and afternoon, these can be booked for up to 5 consecutive days. Approx. £110 for 5 days.
Lunch time supervision is €10 a day which includes a three course meal.
Private lessons are also available on an hourly basis.
Hillwood Childcare
Free 6 days childcare 0930-1230 & 1400-1630
Lunch time supervision 1230-1400 - £10 per day.
Accommodation
Price guide includes basic holiday cost for one adult sharing a double room for 7 days half board accommodation, return flights, transfer and taxes.
Zauchenseehof ****
Price Guide £990
Located opposite one of the main lifts the Zauchenseehof truly provides door step skiing. It is one of the original hotels of Zauchensee but the Walchhofer family have not let time stand still.
Its superb spa complex and swimming pool area including a dedicate children’s pool is a place to visit either after skiing or to relax in during the day watching the skiers on the slopes. The rooms are all very well appointed, together with the excellent restaurant serving a four course meal each evening and buffet breakfast will make your stay complete. The hotel's facilities also include a bar, night club and bowling alley.
Hillwood's child clubs are located within the hotel complex, including the free evening club.
Salzburger Hof ****

The Salzbuger Hof Is located opposite a small nursery slope, close to all the major lifts it is a ski in ski out hotel. The rooms are spacious and range from double rooms through to a penthouse suite. There is a spa complex and a swimming pool.
The top floor of the hotel has a fitness room and a relaxation area with comfortable chairs to lie on and chill out or read whilst looking out over the slopes. The restaurant offers a wide choice of evening meals and buffet breakfasts. The children have also been catered for with an area that has table tennis, a pool table and a small playroom for the young ones.
Sport Alm ****
Price Guide £975
The Sport Alm with its spa complex, including sauna, stream room, plunge pool etc is a confortable hotel. Relax in the bar with an open-hearth fire, this hotel understands comfort, there is even a sofa in the boot room!
The restaurant serves four course evening meals and buffet style breakfasts. Rooms range from doubles through to suites and interconnecting rooms.
